MeshSonar
A free, open-source phone app that maps where the central Ohio MeshCore mesh can hear you. Drive, and every ping becomes a square on the coverage map.

How a drive works
- Your phone pings. Paired with your MeshCore radio, MeshSonar sends a short ping on the
#wardrivingchannel as you drive. - Repeaters echo it. Any repeater that hears the ping repeats it. For about 6 seconds your radio listens for those echoes and notes which repeater it heard, and how strongly (SNR).
- The app records who heard you. Each ping becomes a point: where you were and which repeaters answered, or that none did. "Heard nothing" is data too.
- CMAT maps it. Uploaded pings are summed into squares of about 220 m on the coverage map and checked against the model.

Pair your radio
Turn on your MeshCore companion radio and pair it over Bluetooth in the app. Join the
#wardrivingchannel.Get a driver key
Sign in here and create a driver key on Devices and keys, then enter it in the app. Or request a key from inside the app.
Drive
Start a drive and go. Every ping is saved on the phone first and uploaded when you have signal, so nothing is lost in a dead zone.
Your privacy
| Trimmed ends | The first and last 500 m of every drive are left off public maps, so your driveway never shows. Change the distance on Privacy. |
|---|---|
| Privacy zones | Draw circles around home or work; pings inside them are never shown publicly. |
| Anonymous | Drive as "anonymous" and your callsign never appears next to your drives. |
| What's public | Only squares of about 220 m with counts and signal levels. No raw tracks, no drive names, times rounded to the hour. |
| Leaderboard | Off unless you opt in, and then by callsign only. |
| Your data | You see your own drives untrimmed, and can rename, hide, export or delete them at any time. |
